The recreation area encompasses 1,492 acres and includes a variety of activities such as hiking, biking, fishing, camping, and picnicking. The recreation area was developed by the Kern County Parks and Recreation Department in collaboration with the California Department of Parks and Recreation. The recreation area is open to the public and is accessible from Highway 178.

The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens, also known as the Whittier Collection, is one of the world's foremost private art museums. The museum is home to a renowned collection of rare books, manuscripts, prints, drawings, and paintings dating back to the 16th century. The gardens are renowned for their extensive collection of plants from all over the world. The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-5pm, and Sunday from 1pm-5pm.
